http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/unique-everybody-else/201210/psilocybin-and-brain-function

So new research in the world of mushrooms has just broken media attention. Done under PET scans, peoples brains were scanned while under the influence of psilocybin (main psychoactive chemical in magic mushrooms). The results however, are contrary to initial suspicions. What the results reveal is that psilocybin actually slows the activity of the brain. Now this can means some pretty interesting things, one possible suggestion that can be drawn from this is that the rapid movement of our minds act as a veil, protecting us from all the rapidly encountered stimulation. Now one way of looking at this could be that this drug slows the processing of our subconscious which would allow us to perceive much more information on a conscious level. Aldous huxley proposed similar simpler concept. but i am no neurologist yet, simply a speculator.

In the article the author speaks of research regarding deep concentration which shows similar results, but in even more recent research, scientist using eeg, Fmri and PEt scans have showen very similar results with meditation processes. I will be seeking out the empirical data to post here.

interesting. that would explain the "looping of time" that some users have claimed to experience, or the feeling of beeing "born again",,, over and over again
