1.5 million in gay porn damages

I just read this, this afternoon and i found it very odd. Mr fisher ( the defendant ) has been fined 1.5 million dollars for uploading and sharing 10 gay porn films via bit torrent. Whats funny is he did not even defend him self in court during the hearing, after 15 other cases similar to this have been thrown out for lack of evidence and this man didnt even try to stop the plaintiff. And what is sad about this is the precedent this sets for future cases to come. this is the first time in ip address was used to win a case, previous to this it was not enough to substantiate a claim of piracy.
